A Journey is an addition to existing games like Monopoly and Catan, enhancing the regular game experience. It adds a role-playing dynamic, commonly found in video games or games like Dungeons & Dragons, but via TableTop, it brings this element to widely-played family games as well.
What do you get?
With every Journey, you receive a complete, printable package that prepares you for a unique gaming experience. The package includes at least:
Character Descriptions:
Unique characters that fit the theme of the story, each with their own background, role, and secret objectives or quests. These descriptions help you fully immerse yourself in your character and elevate the role-play experience to the next level.
Personal Objectives:
Each character has a secret goal that rewards extra victory points when completed. This creates individual strategies and makes each game different.
Additionally, depending on the story and the game, the following items are also included:
Event Cards:
Instead of the traditional Monopoly “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards, or the standard Catan cards, you get new event cards. These cards are drawn at pre-determined moments (for example, when a 6 or 8 is rolled in Catan, or on every turn) and introduce unexpected twists and dynamics to the game.
Optional House Rules and Custom Game Boards:
Depending on the story, you’ll get additional rules that adjust the base game mechanics. Some stories come with an entirely new game board that reflects the unique setting, so your game directly radiates the atmosphere and theme of the expansion.
What’s expected of the players?
Before the Game Night:
- Print all the materials (if you purchased a digital download).
- Distribute the character cards among the players. This immediately creates an immersive role-playing setting where everyone has a unique role and mission.
During the Game:
In addition to playing according to the original game rules (from Monopoly, Catan, or another game), you’ll also use the extra rules and cards:
- Special Actions and Personal Objectives: Each player performs unique actions that match their character.
- Event Cards: These cards are drawn at agreed-upon moments (such as when a 6 or 8 is rolled in Catan) to activate unexpected effects, making the game more dynamic.
- Rule Adjustments: Some stories introduce new elements, such as a modified game board, a public fund, or even a completely different way of managing properties.
By integrating story, custom rules, and printable materials, you transform a familiar game into an immersive adventure. Every move, every decision, and every moment contributes to the great saga of your game night.
Note: You will need your own copy of the base game to play a TableTop Journey!
